Council Tax Band Estimator
Estimate your council tax band based on property value at (England/Scotland) or 2003 (Wales)
How Council Tax Bands Work
Council tax bands are based on the value of your property at a specific date โ 1 April 1991 for England and Scotland, and 1 April 2003 for Wales. Your band determines how much council tax you pay relative to Band D, which is the reference point. Band A pays two-thirds of Band D, while Band H pays twice Band D.
Can I Challenge My Band?
Yes. If you believe your property is in the wrong band, you can challenge it through the Valuation Office Agency (England/Wales) or the Scottish Assessors Association (Scotland). Common reasons include comparable properties in a lower band, property changes that should reduce the band, or factual errors in the valuation.
Council Tax Discounts
Single person occupants get a 25% discount. Full-time students are exempt. People with severe mental impairment may qualify for exemption or discount. Council tax reduction (formerly council tax benefit) is available for people on low income.
